Springtime Updates

After another winter as Cheesy Rider (both on the road and inside Rooster Fish Brewing in Watkins Glen), it’s almost taco season! Here’s what to know for our FIFTH season slinging tacos:

*We’ll be opening for the season April 12 at Elmira Savings Bank on County Route 64 in Horseheads!

*You can find us weekdays at the following locations:
Tuesdays (starting in May) 530pm-830pm at Iron Flamingo Brewing on Baker St in Corning
Wednesdays 11am-2pm at Elmira Savings Bank on County Route 64 in Horseheads
Thursdays 11am-2pm at Main St & Third St in Elmira
Fridays 1030am-230pm at Corning Museum of Glass in Corning
The last Friday of the month 530pm-830pm at Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards in Hector
Various locations and times on Saturdays (check the calendar on this page!)

*Global Taco Passports are still in effect, so remember to get your passport stamped when you buy a plate or a mini. After 9 stamps, your 10th plate or mini is on the house!

*Prices are increasing this year after staying the same for 2 years. We had a food cost analysis done, and we’ve been undercharging. It’s always tough to know when to raise prices especially when we’ve tried so hard to keep costs down and quality up, but with coworkers’ annual raises and the price of meat and produce increasing after last summer’s drought, a price increase is necessary. We understand if you can’t fit us into your budget but we hope to see you anyway!

Thanks as always for continuing to support your friendly local taco truck! We can’t wait to see everyone soon!

Winter Taco-land

Thanks to all of you for another amazing taco season!

We catered weddings, after-parties, graduations, and birthday parties. We were even invited to cater other restaurants’ staff parties! We served at festivals all over the region and met SO many nice people!

We produced Clute Park Market and Movies on the Lake in Watkins Glen for the second time. We helped wineries and breweries celebrate their anniversaries, and donated to Food Bank of the Southern Tier and several fundraisers for local individuals fighting illnesses.

We participated in “Guac the Vote” to register voters here in New York State.

And we couldn’t do all of those things without your continued support!

Now that Cheesy Rider has an indoor home, the truck will stay Global Taco through the winter and we’ve booked some great events where you can find us! Check these out if you can; we’d love to see you!

November 20 11am-4pm Handmade Harvest Market, Chamberlain Acres Garden Center & Florist, Southport
November 23 9pm-12am Midnight Taco at Beefeater’s Tavern, Horseheads
December 3 12pm-4pm Community Arts Market, Community Arts of Elmira
December 17 4pm-8pm Big Flats Winter Festival, Town of Big Flats Community Center
January 21 4:30pm-10pm WinterFest, Rooster Fish Brewing, Watkins Glen

If you’d like to inquire about availability for next season, please email [email protected] We are almost at our limit for weddings with 4 booked already! See you soon!

Movies on the Lake

I love my taco truck and my grilled cheese restaurant (cheesyrider.com to check it out!), but my favorite non-food event to organize is Movies on the Lake! It’s an outdoor movie at Clute Park in Watkins Glen after dark, and we run them Wednesday evenings in July and August (NO MOVIE AUGUST 10).

I started this project to get the community outdoors and to the lake together, and it’s working! Movies start around 9:15pm and are projected on a 25′ screen procured for the event by the Colunio family. All movies are rated PG, and if you’re concerned about whether that night’s movie is appropriate for small people, I urge you to do some googling. Come early for food, wine, beer, arts, crafts, and sometimes music at Clute Park Market!

Thanks to movie sponsors Watkins Glen Harbor Hotel, Senka Agency, Ithaca Wine & Design, GRAFT, The Profuslies, and JMB Painting. Thanks to the Watkins-Montour Rotary Club for their grant which helped pay for the screen, installation, sound equipment, movies, and advertising.

Cheesy Rider on the Road

As many of you know, we replaced the engine on the truck TWICE this fall (the first engine was a leaky mess, and the crank broke on the first replacement engine). The last engine did the trick, and while you can find Cheesy Rider at Upstate Brewing in Elmira Tuesday-Saturday, we also have some dates on the road! We hope to see you at the following events:

December 27 1pm-5pm Iron Flamingo Brewery 1st Anniversary Party, Corning
December 28 12pm-6pm Mechanic Mondays at Absolute Auto, Montour Falls
January 9 6pm-9pm Barnstormer Winery Winter Music Series, Rock Stream
January 23 6pm-10pm Rooster Fish Brewing 1st Annual Winterfest, Watkins Glen
January 25 12pm-6pm Mechanic Mondays at Absolute Auto, Montour Falls
February 13 6pm-9pm Barnstormer Winery Winter Music Series, Rock Stream
February 29 12pm-6pm Mechanic Mondays at Absolute Auto, Montour Falls
March 12 6pm-9pm Barnstormer Winery Winter Music Series, Rock Stream
March 28 12pm-6pm Mechanic Mondays at Absolute Auto, Montour Falls

End of Taco Season & the Return of Cheesy Rider!

Hi everybody! As you may know, we had a “new” used engine installed in the truck in September. Unfortunately, the crank went, so we are replacing the engine again! This was absolutely NOT the fault of my amazing mechanic Scott or the guys at Southern Tier Auto Recycling; machines break and all we can do is try to keep up. Luckily, Scott lets us open for business at his shop, Absolute Auto in Montour Falls, so until we are fixed (hopefully by 10/30) we will be open there Tuesday-Friday 11am-2pm, Saturday 12pm-4pm, and for dinner Thursday and Friday 530pm-830pm. We are so sad to miss you at previously scheduled events, and it always breaks my heart to call another business owner and tell them we can’t make it. We sure hope to get to Chamberlain Acres on 10/30 and Horseheads Brewing for their Halloween revelers on 10/31!

Global Taco’s season is officially OVER on Halloween! We had our best year so far! We went all the way to Steuben Brewing on Keuka Lake, to the New York State Fair in Syracuse (where we received an Honorable Mention and a tip of the hat from the judges for our use of local ingredients in the Fair’s first food truck competition!), to Heavily Brewing Co in Montour Falls, to Glassfest in Corning, and to Chamberlain Acres in Southport for Friday lunches, as well as multiple awesome locations in Elmira, Watkins Glen, Corning, Horseheads, Big Flats, Hector, Rock Stream, and even a wedding in Ithaca. We are also booked for THREE weddings next year so our April-October season is already shaping up.

The end of Global Taco’s season means it’s time for locally-sourced, melty, delicious grilled cheese from Cheesy Rider at Upstate Brewing in Elmira! We started Cheesy Rider in 2014 after noticing the demand for tacos really decreases in October. We *may* have been inspired by the movie “Hot Rod,” where serious issues like “who would win in a fight, grilled cheese or tacos?” were considered. This was a group effort: Kyle came up with the name, Allison realized we didn’t have to build another truck since Global Taco has all the equipment we needed to make grilled cheese, and Sara made the menu and cooked. We are so happy to use meats and cheeses from New York and breads made just for us from Glen Mountain Market during a season when lots of businesses struggle. We know how hard the food business can be and are happy to spend our dollars in New York with awesome creameries Sunset View (Odessa), Shtayburne (Dundee), Yancey’s Fancy (Rochester), and Great Lakes (company is in Ohio but uses dairy primarily from NYS farms). And don’t forget the soup: guest favorite Beer Cheese Soup is made with Genesee beer!

Cheesy Rider is open at Upstate Brewing on Lake Road in Elmira Tuesday-Thursday 11am-2pm and Friday-Saturday 12pm-4pm. If you can’t make it to the Horseheads/Elmira area, we’ve booked events in November in Lodi and Montour Falls (see calendar)! Even though we don’t love cold weather, we’re excited to keep you warm with our tasty food and Upstate Brewing’s award-winning beers!

Free Delivery Week of 9/14 to 9/18

We miss our Chemung county friends, so we’ll be offering FREE DELIVERY next week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday if you have 6 or more orders. Delivery times will be 1130am, 1230pm, and 130pm, and you can order at [email protected] or 607-742-1943. Delivery times will be first come, first served, so get together with your friends, check out the menu and have a taco party!

Hooray for Summer!

Friends, we are more than halfway through our busiest season yet and still truckin’!

You can find where we’ll be on this site by clicking on the calendar. If you prefer daily updates and pictures of specials, scenery, and the Global Taco family, check us out on Facebook! And of course you can post your taco and truck pics (and see ours!) on Instagram using @globaltaco.

We have plenty of fun events coming up, but we’re REALLY excited about the NY State Fair’s Taste of NY Food Truck Competition on September 6 in Syracuse! The State Fair folks chose 20 trucks to serve their signature item using local products, so we’ll be serving the Finger Lakes Taco as the representative from our region. This taco uses local wine (Atwater Estate Vineyards), grapes (Atwater Estate Vineyards), husk cherries (Muddy Fingers Farm), cilantro (Plowbreak Farm), lettuces (Muddy Fingers Farm, Plowbreak Farm, Rolling Hills Produce), and Verjooz (Sawmill Creek Vineyards). There IS a popular vote in addition to the judges’ voting, so we hope to see you there!state fair

Support Spirit of Schuyler

One of my great friends, Al DeSarno, passed away at the end of 2013. In his memory, we will be serving at Hector Wine Company 12pm-6pm on May 1, Al’s birthday, and all sales proceeds will be donated to local charity Spirit of Schuyler. Their mission is to provide financial assistance to residents of Schuyler county in time of emergency. Al was a kind, generous, creative, funny, well-heeled Hector man, and he is missed by many of us every day.
